What We Believe

  The Well: A Spirit-filled Church

Statement of Faith:

The Scripture:

We affirm that the Bible, containing the Old and New Testaments is the basis of our beliefs. The Bible is the inspired Word of God, written by man under the guidance of the Holy Spirit with the original manuscripts being the inerrant word of God. The Bible is the source of all doctrine, instruction, correction, and reproof, and is the source of all truth which illuminates our path through life and guides us in matters of faith and Christian conduct.

The Trinity:

We believe in the one true living God, who eternally exists in three persons – the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit and is the creator and preserver of all things.

– The Father

God the Father is the creator and sustainer of all things, who created the universe for His good pleasure and created man in His own image. He is omnipotent, omnipresent, and omniscient, and is limited by nothing other than His own nature and character. Our Heavenly Father whom we serve is holy, righteous, loving, and full of grace and mercy.

– The Son

Yeshua/Jesus Christ is the true Son of God, the living Word who became flesh being conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary. Yeshua/Jesus lived a sinless life and offered Himself as the sacrificial (Paschal) Lamb to atone for the sin of all mankind. That through His death, burial, and resurrection, those who believe in Him should not perish but have eternal life.

The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is co-equal with God the Father, and God the Son. The presence of the Holy Spirit reveals to mankind their need for a Savior and applies the saving work of Yeshua/Jesus to those who believe and receive Him. Through conviction and repentance, the Holy Spirit imparts new life and dwells within the believer empowering them to love, serve, and obey God. Through the baptism in the Holy Spirit, the fullness of the Spirit is released and becomes evident by the fruits and the gifts of the Spirit.

The Atonement of Man:

Man was created by God in His own image, but fell into sin, inheriting a corrupt nature that is worthy of the sentence of death. Because of man’s sinful nature, he is not capable of achieving a life without sin on his own, but only through the atoning sacrifice of Yeshua/Jesus Christ. It is only through Yeshua’s /Jesus death, burial, and resurrection and through regeneration by the Holy Spirit can salvation and a spiritual life be obtained. All mankind has been given the ability and the will to choose which course he/she will take in deciding between what is right and what is wrong and is therefore responsible for their actions and the choices they make. In making the decision to choose and accept Yeshua/Jesus, this gift from God, we can then go boldly before the throne of grace with confidence, knowing He will give us all that we need.

Salvation:

The Word of God declares that salvation is a free gift of God, based on the death, burial and resurrection of His Son, and is received by faith. Salvation occurs when we confess our sin and repent of our sinful ways. Humbling ourselves before God we seek His forgiveness for our sins. That through His shed blood, and the power of His resurrection, the broken relationship between God and man has been restored. It is by our faith, and not by works alone, that we have received this free gift of eternal life.

Sanctification:

We believe sanctification is the work of God and the power of the Holy Spirit, making the believer pure in heart, holy and set apart and totally committed and dedicated to God.  Scripture portrays the life of the saint in this world to be one of balance between what is instilled in us as Christians and what is imparted to us according to our faith and maturity. This is a lifelong dynamic process, whereby we become like Christ, from glory to glory and strength to strength.

There are three agents involved in our sanctification: The Holy Spirit (Romans 15:16), the word ( John 17:17), and the blood of Christ (Hebrews 10:29). There is a past sanctification whereby we are positionally set apart ( I Cor 1:2), a present sanctification which is the process we are in ( Thess 4:3-4)and our future sanctification which we receive at the resurrection ( I Thes. 5:23). Sanctification does not occur by our own efforts, but is a byproduct of trusting and believing in God.

The Body of Christ/ The Church:

The goal of the Church is to make disciples and assist in equipping the saints for the work of the ministry. We believe in the gathering of the saints as scripture encourages us to do so and to follow the pattern set out throughout the Old and New Testaments. We believe in outreach to those in need, not only within the body of believers, but to those outside of the church.

Water Baptism:

Water Baptism is encouraged after accepting Yeshua/Jesus as Lord and Savior. It is a public declaration that one has accepted Yeshua/Jesus as their personal Savior, and an outward sign of what God has done in the individual’s life. It is a testimony to all, that the individual now belongs to Yeshua/Jesus and is identified through His death, burial and resurrection.

Baptism of the Holy Spirit:

The Baptism of the Holy Spirit occurs at the time of conversion which enables the believer to experience the gifts of the Holy Spirit and to be a witness for Yeshua/ Jesus Christ. This impartation of spiritual gifts are given to all who believe for the purpose of edifying the body of Christ and bringing glory to God.   (1 John 4:15 ; Acts 2:38 ; 1 Cor. 12:1-11)

Communion:

The Lord’s Supper is a commemoration of Yeshua/Jesus death and is done in remembrance of Him. We partake in the elements of the Body (bread) and the Blood (juice) in a sacred and symbolic manner as a testament of our faith in the atoning work of the cross. It is a time to reflect and examine ourselves and repent of any harbored sins or offenses.

The Feast Days of the Lord:

The Feast Days of the Lord according to Lev.23:1-2 are God’s appointed feasts. They are God’s appointed times and seasons that refer to Yeshua/Jesus first and second coming. The Spring Feasts consisting of Passover, the Feast of Unleavened Bread, and the Feast of Firstfruits have been fulfilled by Yeshua/Jesus through His death, burial, and resurrection.

Pentecost has been fulfilled when the Holy Spirit, which was promised by Yeshua, was poured out on the disciples according to Acts 2.

The Fall Feasts consisting of The Feast of Trumpets, The Day of Atonement, and The Feasts of Tabernacles will be fulfilled by Yeshua/Jesus upon His return, His second coming. These feast days, these appointed times and seasons are to be celebrated by His people “forever throughout your generations.”

The Second Coming of Christ:

We believe in the second coming of Yeshua/Jesus Christ, the resurrection of the saints, the millennium, and the final judgment. The time of His return is unknown but can occur at any moment in time. Therefore, we are instructed to watch and pray. The final judgment will determine the eternal status of both the saints and the unbelievers, determined by their relationship to Yeshua/Jesus Christ.
